Casa da Amoreira

Olive grove journal · Fundão, Castelo Branco

Named for two trees.

Casa da Amoreira · Mulberry House

I · The name

Amoreira means mulberry tree.

There are two of them behind the barn, both enormous, both a great deal older than anything we planted. The house is named after them, and so is the oil.

The Casa da Amoreira label: a gold olive tree above the words Extra Virgin Olive Oil, Product of Portugal
The tree on the label is an olive, not a mulberry. The mulberries stay behind the barn.

II · The ambition

British kitchens, nothing in between.

We wanted this oil in British kitchens in the state it leaves the press. One grove, one oil, one pressing a year — everything we have goes into that bottle, and we would rather it stayed that way.
